Persian East Turkestan Carpet

East Turkestan carpet with quite distinctly European tastes in the design, probably a special order, handwoven from wool in East Turkestan, present day western China.

This East Turkestan carpet is published in;

THE PERSIAN CARPET, ‘The Fabric of Life’, Essie Sakhai, Woodbridge, 2008.

pl. 364,  p. 442.

A very fine and unusual carpet from the early-20th century.
This carpet might have been woven with the French market in mind,
hence the intertwined roses as a large central medallion with a
typical empire border and the dark brown field, which greatly
resembles a French rug. Wool pile on a cotton foundation.
