Rare Persian Bakhtiari Large Carpet –  Inscribed – Garden Panel Design – Oversize

This Persian Bakhtiari carpet is published in;

THE PERSIAN CARPET, ‘The Fabric of Life’, Essie Sakhai, Woodbridge, 2008.

pl. 204,  p. 260.

Carpets, such as this example from c.1900,
were quite clearly intended for the personal
use of the rich khans or, as in this case,
the particular merchant who ordered it.
Although it indicates that this carpet
was not made for one of the Bakhtiari
Great Khans, the inscription ‘Farmayesh
Amirza Abbas valad sadegh Hajji Zeinal
Shalamzari’ [By order of Amirza Abbas,
true son of Hajji Zeinal of Shalamzar]
is still of interest since it indicates
the exact place of weaving, the town of
Shalamzar. (Note that carpets with inscriptions
are not always of better quality than
those without them.)

Persian Bakhtiari large carpet handwoven from wool in Iran. Items with these proportions are considered oversize with respect to dimensions of a standard room.
