Esfahan Hekmatnejad Signed Medallion

Central Medallion Design

Composition: Silk and Very Fine Kork/Kurk Wool(Cashmere) on Silk Foundation

This Persian Esfahan rug is published in;

THE PERSIAN CARPET, ‘The Fabric of Life’, Essie Sakhai, Woodbridge, 2008.

pl. 34, p. 79.

This Esfahan rug is an excellent and wholly characteristic example of the intricate filigree style and subtle palette for which the great ustad Hekmatnejad is well known. The central star medallion, worked with the utmost complexity, is surrounded in this instance by a delicate tracery of Shah Abbas flower heads and leaves; this represents a style that the Esfahani ustadan re-invented from Safavid models in the 20th century and made their own. Although subsequently it influenced weavers in many cities – one thinks in particular of Nain – nevertheless, the Esfahan versions are of a particular brilliance and sophistication, unique and instantly recognisable.

This carpet is special order and is signed by Hekmatnejad.
