Fine Persian Tabriz Carpet Allover ottoman Turkish textile inspired design Wool Pile

This Fine Persian Tabriz rug displays a design based on a specific design as seen in late 16th century Ottoman silk velvet and metal thread textiles known as ‘Catma’.

This finely woven Tabriz rug displays  repeat ivory floral motifs arranged in offset rows. The floral motif represents a seven petalled carnation which is attached to ivory leaves and root stems and these are supported by arrow head cone forms, all presented on a deep red  background.  The colours used in this Tabriz rug mirror the basic colours seen in the  16th century Ottoman ‘Catma’.

The border pattern displaying crescent forms and tulips  is an original addition supporting the main field design. This border pattern would not be seen in the original Ottoman Catma, though are ornaments that would appear in Ottoman weavings. Such inclusion is consistent with the Tabriz weavers approach to innovation. Such innovation seen in this rug has resulted in a highly decorative work of woven art.

There is no doubting that this classical textile design works superbly as a pattern for a  fine  hand knotted rug, woven by an accomplished highly skilled  weaver, fully conversant with  eastern weaving traditions.
