Exquisite Very Fine Turkish Hereke Silk Carpet – Signed

This magnificent Turkish Hereke silk carpet displays a design reminiscent of the ‘garden tile design’, a traditional design seen in both Turkish and Persian urban and tribal weavings. This pattern is defined by the presence of conjoined rectangular compartments formed in rows and invariably enclosing floral elements, and in this carpet includes exotic birds and animals. The pattern elements are drawn in a distinctive Turkish Hereke style which incorporates an orchestrated mix of rectilinear and curvilinear drawing. Such a mix enhances the overall appearance of the overall composition. The rectangular compartments are pointed top and bottom which is unusual. Remarkably the design is perfectly mirrored through the horizontal axis which creates a majestic formal design. This field pattern displays a traditional device known as ‘infinite repeat’ whereby the design on all four sides appears to continue beyond the confines of the border frame suggesting that the pattern continues for eternity. Such a device creates a sense of movement to the composition. All the pattern details are drawn in a distinctive Hereke style which shows finely drawn elements as if drawn in pen and ink which ensures the pattern details are well defined and easy to read. This magnificent carpet design is presented over multi layers which gives depth and movement to the visual appearance. The sense of movement and fluidity is enhanced by the varying orientations of the floral elements and birds. This complex design is brought to life by the consummate use of colour. The range and number of colours with related accent tones is exceptional and which have been juxtaposed in such a way as to ensure that this carpet is a masterpiece in woven Hereke art. The contrasting border colours magnificently frame the main field pattern, further enhancing the visual impact of the sophisticated, elegant harmonic design.
