Fine Elegant Persian Kerman carpet, woven in Iran, central medallion, fine wool on cotton foundation

An extremely elegant Kerman carpet dating to around 1900. The design is of classic central medallion format formed over five layers, presented on an ivory ground. The scale of this medallion is large and dominant and more rectangular in shape as opposed to being more circular in form. This representation is seen in the Persian court carpets of the 16th century rather than later classical court carpets of the 17th century. Likewise the attached mirrored pendants are of complementary large scale. There is no doubting the origin of this carpet since the range of colours are from the distinctive characteristic Kerman palette applied during the revivalist period, comprising, tyrolean purple, rose red, varying shades of blue, yellow and green. Fine wool pile on cotton foundation.
