Persian Tabriz Carpet Medallion design Wool Pile

This Persian Tabriz carpet is published in;

THE PERSIAN CARPET, ‘The Fabric of Life’, Essie Sakhai, Woodbridge, 2008.

pl. 170, p. 228.

Though this very impression Tabriz carpet has the standard Medallion, pendants and corners design, it is unusual in leaving the remainder of the field undecorated. This design and its individual elements is purely Persian, the overall effect is closest to that of some of the best known ‘Turkey’ carpets from Ushak in West Anatolia; indeed, in both design and colour this is very similar to so-called Mejid-style carpets (see Plate 358). Probably dating from around 1900-20, this carpet bears the woven inscription ‘Sherkat ghali’ [carpet workshop].
