Fine Persian Qum Rug. Signed. Medallion design Fine Wool and Silk

The city of Qum is a recently established centre for the weaving of urban style rugs with workshops appearing there from around 1927 onwards. It rapidly became a significant and important centre for the creation of technically extremely fine silk rugs and carpets, though fine wool pile rugs are also made there. The repertoire of their designs is varied, ranging from designs based on Safavid Persian traditions of the 16th and 17th Centuries, through to individual creative designs of unparalleled technical and artistic visual excellence, which can often be described as ground breaking.

This fine Persian Qum rug displays a central medallion design format woven with a delicately drawn floral design. The use of colour is particularly noteworthy.  The overall complexion is pale with a salmon background housing a slightly darker toned central medallion which is given definition by a finely drawn continuous blue and ivory flower head garland. The floral pattern is predominantly presented in blue and ivory with flashes of red tones to give depth to the design. This combination of colours with contrast has resulted in a pleasing easy to read design consistent with the fine woven art associated with the talented Qum weavers. This fine rug is signed by the master weaver in recognition that this is an accomplished work of woven art.
