Persian Tabriz Large Carpet – Oversize – Fine Silk and Wool

This Persian Tabriz carpet is published in;

THE PERSIAN CARPET, ‘The Fabric of Life’, Essie Sakhai, Woodbridge, 2008.

pl. 202,  p. 138.

Like the carpet illustrated in Plate 113, this example is based on
a 17th century ‘shrub’ carpet in ‘vase’ technique. In fact, the particular
carpets that served as models are a famous pair now split between the
Osterreichisches Museum fur Angewandte Kunst, Vienna and the
Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam. This pair has appeared in carpet literature in
lavish colour illustrations since the beginning of the 20th century and such
reproductions were the source of the many 20th century versions woven in
Tabriz and elsewhere. This is a particularly fine example woven in the 1970s.
Another Tabriz carpet of this design was illustrated in The Story of Carpets,

Persian Tabriz large carpet handwoven from fine silk and wool. Items of this proportion are considered oversize with respect to dimensions of a standard room.
