Persian Tabriz Large Carpet – Oversize – Fine Silk and Wool

This Persian Tabriz carpet is published in;

THE PERSIAN CARPET, ‘The Fabric of Life’, Essie Sakhai, Woodbridge, 2008.

pl. 155, p. 217.

A beautifully made Tabriz carpet dating from the 1970s.

At first glance, one would be forgiven for thinking that this was a late-19th or early 20th century Indian carpet from Agra based on a 17th century carpet of the type that used to be known in both the carpet trade and carpet literature as ‘Indo-Persian’. This type is now accepted by most writers as the product of Esfahan (although there are Indian 17th century red-ground floral carpets that can be fairly easily distinguished both stylistically and structurally from their Persian counterparts).

Persian Tabriz large carpet handwoven from fine silk and wool in Iran. Items of this proportion are considered oversize with respect to dimensions of a standard room.
