Persian Senneh Kilim Gol Farangi Kilim Medallion design | Floral All Wool

This particular pattern, shows a central  cartouche containing sprays of stylised (almost abstract) roses (gul farangi). This medallion design was obviously popular, and continues to be so judging from the number of times it is encountered in Senneh pile weavings. It is more rarely seen in Kilims. The ‘gol farangi’ design is also seen in carpets and rugs from other established weaving centres. This pattern is particularly present from the early 20th century onwards.. The pattern itself is likely derived from an established European textile pattern.
