Fine Rare Old Varamin CarpetRug #2620
Fine and Rare Old Varamin Carpet, allover repeat design, light ground, red, blue, saffron colours with accent tones, fine weave
A Fine and Rare Old Varamin Carpet, North Persia, Fine Wool on Cotton Foundation.
The ivory field with an all over ‘Mina khani’ design, within a coral border enclosing continuous turtle palmettes alternating with flower heads linked by angular vines, ending in hooked serrated leaves.
This is a fine example of Persian Varamin weaving. The design referred to as the ‘Mina khani’ design is frequently seen in rugs and carpets woven in Varamin. This is defined by a repeat pattern of flower heads arranged in a diamond shape, with a flower head placed in the centre of each diamond. This motif is then repeated to form an all-over design. This highly decorative pattern is seen in this fine old Varamin carpet.
Larger sized carpets are more rarely woven in Varamin, and this ‘Mina khani’ design is beautifully rendered in this old Varamin carpet, and works well in a large scale weaving. The pattern elements are drawn with great clarity and precision, consistent with fine Varamin woven artistry. The colours are from a distinctive characteristic Varamin palette, which includes coral, salmon pink, blue, pale blue green, pale green, pale saffron, tangerine and ivory. these colours are magnificently juxtaposed to create a highly decorative work of woven art.
This traditional design rendered in this way, with a light airy complexion, combined with the wonderful complementary colours results in a carpet which would act as a magnificent statement or enhancement to either contemporary or traditional interior decoration styles.
