Fine, Signed Persian Qum Rug Medallion design Silk on Silk foundation

The city of Qum is a recently established centre for the weaving of urban style rugs with workshops appearing there from around 1927 onwards. It rapidly became a significant and important centre for the creation of technically extremely fine silk rugs and carpets, though fine wool pile rugs are also made there. The repertoire of their designs is varied, ranging from designs based on Safavid Persian traditions of the 16th and 17th Centuries, through to individual creative designs of unparalleled technical and artistic visual excellence, which can often be described as ground breaking.

This fine Qum silk rug is of traditional central medallion format with some original additions defined by the presence of a square tile pattern throughout the field, and the indented border which harmonically combine together to create a unique composition. The colours are noteworthy, rich and jewel like. The deep red field supports a complex highly detailed multi coloured floral medallion and border pattern. Shades of red, green, blue and saffron combine together and are juxtaposed to maximise the visual appeal  of the composition giving the rug a regal stately appearance. this remarkable Qum silk rug is duly signed by the master weaver.
