Very Fine Persian Tabriz Extra Large Carpet Medallion design Silk and Fine Kork Wool (Cashmere) Wool on Silk foundation

This Persian Tabriz carpet is published in;

THE PERSIAN CARPET, ‘The Fabric of Life’, Essie Sakhai, Woodbridge, 2008.

pl. 141,  p. 205.

Structurally, this is an outstanding example of contemporary Tabriz weaving.
Interestingly, we note in the caption to Plate 155 that the carpet illustrated
there seems to have been based on an Indian 19th century version of a
17th century Persian original. The present carpet, although it combines traditional
elements in a modern fashion (as well as using a thoroughly contemporary palette)
has one particular motif that is strongly reminiscent of the Indian 17th century
red ground carpets of Persian inspiration. This is the curving element seen
repeated in the field as part of the overall design and round the central medallion;
it is made up of several small flower heads decreasing in size towards the end
and resembling a raceme (indeed, on Indian carpets, it was described by
the American scholar Maurice Dimand as resembling a raceme of wisteria blossom).
This carpet has a poem by Hafez written in the inner guard border.
