Fine Persian Kashan wool carpet handwoven in Iran. Items of this size are also known as oversize with respect to a typical room. The design features ornate multiple medallion on a highly decorated floral field in red accent colours set on a navy base, resulting in a dark complexion.
Kashan used to be the largest city in Central Persia during the 17th Century, and virtually all traffic between Esfahan and the east passed through it. Due to the significant location Kashan became the popular stop off point on a bustling trade route during the 17th century Safavid Era. During this era in which carpet weaving flourished in Persia, Kashan developed a reputation as one of the finest weaving centres of the east, and as such, Persian Kashan Rugs produced are of the very finest handmade Persian rugs and carpets. Kashan was a centre of silk production since Safavid times, and some of the finest classical handmade Persian silk rugs have been attributed to Kashan. At the end of the nineteenth century the Persian Kashan weavers began to produce high quality rugs and carpets, as part of the ‘revival’ in the Persian handmade carpet craft, which re-established the high standards of design and technique established in the 17th century classical era. They often incorporate medallion designs, but all over repeat patterns are frequently seen. Pictorial rugs of varying subject matter also feature highly in their design repertoire. The colour palette can be deep and rich in the classical tradition, with shades of red and blue predominant with ivory detailing. Softer colour hues appropriate and in tune with modern décor styles are also prevalent. Master craftsmen began to appear in Kashan and set up workshops pursuing excellence in their woven products. The most famous of these was ‘Mohtashem’, and Persian Kashan rugs are attributed to his work based on certain consistent characteristics.

In-store collection will be ready within 1 business day. To collect in-store you will be required to show confirmation e-mail, official photo ID (passport or driving license) and the payment card used for the order. If someone else is collecting on your behalf, please make sure they bring a letter of authorisation that permits this person to collect on your behalf, official photo ID of the purchaser and of the person collecting and confirmation e-mail.
