Kashan Carpet Allover design Fine Kork Wool (Cashmere)

This Persian Kashan carpet, of large size, displays an ornate design inspired by classical 17th century tradition. A central circular pale saffron and pale blue sits against a dove grey ground with radiates four palmettes, thus creating a focal point for the composition, from which extends a highly decorative pattern formed by spiralling curvilinear vines issuing palmettes, flower heads and ending in curled serrated leaves.

This pattern is remarkably mirrored on both the vertical and horizontal axis. The overall arrangement presents a magnificent open, airy appearance which ensures the composition is easy to read and gives credence to every element of the design which results in a harmonic, well balanced free flowing design. The border pattern superbly compliments the main field activity, acting as a homogenous frame enhancing, and thus completing the ornate composition with great artistic effect. The colours have been carefully applied, and juxtaposed in such a way as to maximise the visual impact of the pattern elements, and for the benefit of the overall design.

This is clearly the work of an accomplished weaver, who understands tradition, and applies a superb understanding of  the use of colour, thereby creating a fine work of  Kashan woven art.
