Fine Persian Esfahan Rug Allover design Silk and Fine Kork Wool (Cashmere)

This Persian Esfahan rug is published in;

THE PERSIAN CARPET, ‘The Fabric of Life’, Essie Sakhai, Woodbridge, 2008.

pl. 30, p. 76.

This Esfahan rug can be compared to the Tabriz illustrated in this book. It has the same weaving style and palette characteristic of carpet weaving in Iran during the last twenty or thirty years, features utterly unlike those of previous generations. Like the Tabriz rug, this also has what can be interpreted as a modern take on the ‘Garden Tile’ pattern, although here, the straight or curved rectangles, hexagons, octagons or irregular cartouches of the Bakhtiari or other early-20th century ‘Garden Tile’ rugs has become a series of oval or circular cartouches each containing a single floral bouquet; indeed, it is noticeable that the cartouches become larger, more oval and elongated, from one end to the other, intentionally creating an effort of perspective. The inscription cartouche reads: ‘Esfahan Reza Rezvani’.
