This Ersari Turkmen rug is published in;

THE PERSIAN CARPET, ‘The Fabric of Life’, Essie Sakhai, Woodbridge, 2008.

pl. 332.

This is a main carpet by the Ersari, one of the principal weaving tribes of the Turkmen who inhabit both Turkmenistan and Afghanistan. The large octagonal Medallion is the typical version of the gulli gol (see also Plate 342). The diamond shaped minor medallion appears to be a particular Ersari version of a hooked diamond, which, when used as a major motif on the carpets of the Yomut Turkmen , is called the dyrnak gol. An example of Ersari weaving dating from the second half of the 19th century.
