Antique Persian Saruk Carpet – Central Medallion

This Persian Saruk is published in;

THE PERSIAN CARPET, ‘The Fabric of Life’, Essie Sakhai, Woodbridge, 2008.

pl. 283,  p. 346.

If one had to imagine the most archetypal
Saruk medallion rug in the most characteristic
palette, this would be it. The spiky floral
fronds and branches on the dark-blue ground
around the the central medallion are particularly
distinctive, as is the redivory-blue radiation
of the major field colours and the
rust-red main border.

Antique Persian Saruk carpet handwoven from wool in Iran. Central medallion and colour palette that are quintessential of the origin of this carpet, an ideal specimen.
