Extremely fine rare Persian Tabriz carpet, Antique,  extra large, fine wool

A rare early 20th century Tabriz carpet, with a unique design which includes a number of features from various established ‘groups’ of 16th and 17th century carpets, cleverly combined to create an exceptional harmonic design, brought to life by the subtle shades of colour associated with 20th century revivalist weavings. The subtle rust ground is adorned with repeat medallions based on the classical medallions as seen in the 17th century silk ‘Polonaise’ rugs woven in Kashan or Esfahan, the layered palmettes and vines are from 17th century Persian urban tradition, and most intriguingly, the pattern includes ‘wave’ like motifs’ reminiscent of the so called 16th century Ottoman textile ‘cintamani’ design. Furthermore the border pattern is taken from the ‘vase’ carpet group originating in Kerman in the 17th century, then adopted by Kurdish weavers in north west Persia in the 18th century. This amalgam of varying design elements has been combined to create a unique work of decorative woven art. Fine kork wool on cotton foundation.
