Persian Tabriz Carpet Allover design Fine Kork Wool (Cashmere) and Silk on Silk foundation

This Persian Tabriz carpet is published in;

THE PERSIAN CARPET, ‘The Fabric of Life’, Essie Sakhai, Woodbridge, 2008.

pl. 158, p. 220.

This rug, like others illustrated, is included for the insight it gives into the world of modern weaving. There has been a growing trend during the last thirty or forty years for Western dealers to design their own rugs and commission factories in Persia, Turkey, India and, latterly, in Eastern Europe, Afghanistan and Pakistan to make them. Obviously, the quality of both the designs and the weaving can vary enormously, the latter depending as always on the economic strength of the dealer concerned and how fine and expensive he/she wishes the result to be. Recently there has been a strong emphasis on the finest materials and natural dyes. This example was designed by the Sakhai family and woven to the highest standards in Tabriz. It has a simple but beautifully drawn repeat design of obvious merit.
