This is typical of a group of silk medallion
and prayer rugs woven in Tabriz in the late-19th and
early-20th centuries, many of which are associated
with the mythical weaver Hajji Jalili.
Many rugs have been attributed to this
legendary ustad, but so far, no
documentary evidence for his existence
has ever been published.
