Fine Persian Esfahan Signed Rug Medallion design Silk and Kork Wool (Cashmere)

After Seirafian, Mamouri was the best-known and most highly regarded Esfahani ustad (master-weaver) of the late Pahlavi period (1925-1979). This rug exhibits a design often associated with him, an undulating ‘split-palmette’ arabesque surrounding a central medallion, the arabesque being known in modern weaving circles by the Farsi word islemi.
