Antique Persian Senneh Rug Allover design Fine Wool Pile

Senneh rugs are recognised to be finely woven, however this Senneh rug dating from the end of the 19th century takes the meaning of fineness to an extreme level. The pile is of fine wool and close cropped woven on an exceptionally finely spun cotton foundation. This allows for fine detail to be created which is clearly evident here by the presentation of the detailed overall herati design. This pattern is favoured by the weavers of Senneh, along with the boteh motif often seen as an overall repeat pattern in their weavings. The saffron border is a favoured Senneh colour, particularly seen in late 19th and early 20th century Senneh rugs. The diagonal striped secondary border pattern is a style of border pattern which the weavers of Senneh frequently use. Fine close cropped wool pile on cotton foundation.
